A 39-YEAR-OLD man from Chiweshe was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Bindura Magistrate for raping his 5 year old niece at a secluded place near a brick moulding site.

According to a statement by the National prosecuting authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused committed the offence on 28May June when he took the minor who was left in the custody of her 76 year old grandmother by the mother to a brick moulding site where he was working.

“He then sent away his two sons who were also present at the site to fetch firewood and proceeded taking the complainant to a secluded place where he raped her,” the statement read.

The NPAZ said after he committed the offence, he threatened to kill the complainant if she told her grandmother.

The matter came to light when the complainant confided in her grandmother about the incident and a police report was made leading to his arrest.

He was found guilty and sentenced to 20years imprisonment
