A 26-YEAR-OLD man from Jotsholo who indecently assaulted his two nieces and raped one of them was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
He appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court on two counts of indecent assault and one count of rape.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) the accused committed the offence sometime in March when his two nieces aged 12 and 9 where left in his custody. He then went to their bedroom as they were preparing to go to school and started fondling the complainants’ breasts and caressed their privates.
“He threatened to make them disappear if they revealed the matter to anyone,” the NPAZ said.
Sometime later in the same month the accused raped the first complainant (12).
The matter came to light in May when the complainant confided in her aunt who had come from Bulawayo and a police report was made leading to his arrest.
“The accused person was convicted on all counts and was sentenced to 12 months in prison for count 1 and 2, he was further sentenced to 20 years in prison for count 3,” the statement read.
