A 36-YEAR-OLD Gokwe man has been convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to an effective four years in prison following a violent knife attack on his former friend.
A statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) says Rubeni Ziyambi received a five-year prison sentence from the Gokwe Magistrates’ Court, with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour, resulting in a four-year term to serve.
The conviction arises from an incident that occurred on October 20 at Jaravaza Business Centre under Chief Nemangwe.
Ziyambi and the victim reportedly became involved in a dispute due to a breakdown in their friendship.
During the altercation, Ziyambi stabbed the victim three times with a knife, inflicting injuries to the back, forehead and behind the ear.
The injured man managed to disarm his attacker, who then fled the scene.
