Man jailed for arson

Verdan Farm in Beatrice had a misunderstanding with his father and threatened to set alight his homestead to fix him. The court heard that on April 22, at around 8pm, Hoboya left for a beer drink at the farm and came back drunk around midnight.

His father Cyprian Hoboya (58) was asleep in one of the huts, only to be awakened by Garikai, who was scolding him and threatening to set ablaze the homestead. Moments later, Cyprian head an explosion outside and went out to investigate.

He was shocked to see one of his huts engulfed in flames, with his son watching from a distance. Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini slapped Cyprian with a 30-month prison term after he pleaded guilty to malicious damage to property.
