A Harare man has been sentenced to an effective nine months in prison for assaulting his ex-girlfriend after she confronted him on allegations that he had infected her with HIV.

Trymore Madzimbamuto (38) of Southlea Park, was convicted of physical abuse by Mbare magistrate Ms Precious Madzoke.

The complainant, whose identity is being withheld to protect her privacy, is a 31-year-old resident of the same suburb.

Prosecutor Ms Kudzanai Mudzamiri told the court that on March 8, 2026, at around 10pm, the complainant encountered Madzimbamuto at Southlea Park shops.

During the encounter, she questioned him about allegedly infecting her with HIV.

The confrontation angered Madzimbamuto, who then violently assaulted her, striking her several times on the face with his fists.

The court heard that the attack resulted in injuries, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

Madzimbamuto was initially sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, with three months suspended on condition of good behaviour.
