A 38 YEAR-OLD MAN was sentenced to 15 years in jail for raping his ex-wife in Plumtree.
The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, is said to have threatened the victim with a knife in a bid to force her to comply.
Thereafter, he tried to kidnap her to flee with her to South Africa.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said: “On 22 January 2021, the accused ambushed his ex-wife (28) as she was walking home in the company of her companions. He chased them away and forced the complainant into a nearby bushy area, where he later produced a knife, which he used to threaten her.
“He ordered her to undress, then raped her without protection. After the assault, he forced her to go with him to his home, intending to take her to South Africa against her will. Along the way, he received information that her family was looking for her and borrowed a bicycle and took her to her family home. The complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.”
The NPAZ always encourages survivors of sexual attacks to report the abuse and seek justice.
