A thief who stole a phone at the tragic Seke Road accident that occurred last week has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment.
Terrence Mavheneke was implicated by the person he had sold the phone to.
All hell broke loose when he went to reset the phone at the now-deceased relative’s workshop.

The court heard that on August 13, the now deceased Christabella Makwanya was in a commuter omnibus traveling to town and was involved in a fatal accident at the intersection of Seke and St Patrick’s roads.
Mavheneke, who is a conductor, disembarked from his vehicle and started to offer help to the injured people at the accident scene.
While offering assistance, he picked up Makwanya’s phone that was on the ground as she had passed away and kept it.
He sold it to Nigel Kwaramba and Godwin Chindima, who were arrested trying to reset it at a workshop belonging to Makwanya’s relative, who tipped the police.
Mavheneke appeared before Epworth magistrate Esther Mutezo, who sentenced him to 12 months’ imprisonment.
Five months were suspended on condition that he doesn’t commit a similar offence and seven months are effective.

Meanwhile, a truck driver who caused an accident in Ruwa in which nine people died and a baby’s head was cut off, has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.
The driver, Derrick John Chitope appeared before Epworth magistrate Tafadzwa Miti who suspended two years on condition of good behavior and prohibited him from driving heavy vehicles for life.
