Man killed in bar

Herald Reporter
A man appeared before a Harare magistrate on Monday for allegedly fatally assaulting another patron in a bar in what appeared to have been an unprovoked attack.Too intoxicated to talk to each other well, Sydney Phiri (36) of Crowhill Farm in Borrowdale approached the now deceased, Takawira Nahumba, who was drinking beer and assaulted him.

After a communication breakdown, Phiri started pushing and shoving Nahumba. As the tension intensified, Phiri allegedly picked a brick with a nail protruding and hit Nahumba on the head inflicting serious  injuries.

Nahumba was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died shortly after being admitted. Phiri was later arrested after Nahumba’s younger brother and other patrons who had witnessed the incident at the bar reported the matter to the police.

Magistrate Anita Tshuma denied Phiri bail.
