Christopher Gini died on admission to Harare Central Hospital.
He had borrowed a car battery from Shepherd Tirivanhu.
Police have since arrested Tirivanhu (45) in connection with the case. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau confirmed the incident and investigations were still in progress.
“Some three months ago, Gini borrowed a car battery from Tirivanhu and promised to return it but did not,” he said.
He said on the fateful day the two met at the scene and an argument arose.
Tirivanhu reportedly produced a knife, which he used to stab Gini several times on his left side of the chest.
“He suffered severe injuries and was taken to Harare Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission,” Insp Sabau said.
The incident comes after police recently expressed concern over an increase in murder cases.
Last year about 198 people were killed under unclear circumstances.
According to police the figure is likely to double this year.
According to police statistics, last month 24 murder cases were recorded countrywide.
Nine out of the 24 murder cases were as a result of domestic related disputes.
