Man killed over US$10

A 37-year-old man died in Mazowe after he was pushed into a disused mineshaft following an argument over US$10.

The incident occurred at Jumbo Mine on Monday.

Police have since arrested the suspect in connection with the case.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“Police in Mazowe arrested Rynos Makwembere aged 34 in connection with a case of murder which occurred on January 20, 2025, at SOS Claim, Jumbo Mine,” he said.

“The victim, Claude Nyamatope aged 37 fell into a disused mineshaft and died on the spot after being pushed by the suspect following a misunderstanding over US$10.

“The duo had received payment for constructing a shed at the mine, but the suspect allegedly withheld the victim’s share.”
