A 31-YEAR-OLD Mabvuku man who allegedly killed his ex-wife by striking her head with a hammer several times on the head at the height of a dispute over the custody of their children appeared in court on Saturday.
Prince Ndambi was not asked to plead to murder charges when he appeared before a Harare magistrate and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court because he is facing a third schedule offence.
It is the State’s case that On April 3, 2025 Ndambi, who is the former husband of the late Constance Tsitsi Chirwa, proceeded to number 2689 Gletwin, Harare, where she was employed as a housemaid and found her alone.
The court heard that a misunderstanding ensued between the two over the custody of their chiidren, angering the accused person who then hit the now deceased several times with a hammer on the head and she died on the spot.
Upon discovering that Chirwa had died, Ndambi dragged and dumped the corpse under the bridge along Poland Road, about 200m off Mutoko Road getting into Gletwin suburb.
The court heard that Ndambi took a stone weighing approximatety15kg and pressed it against Chirwa’s feet so that the body would not be washed away by water before he disappeared from the scene.
On the following day, Chirwa’s body was discovered by a passerby and the matter was reported to ZRP Highlands.
The body was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for a post-mortem.
On April 7 2025, a post-mortem was conducted by pathologist Robert Gullien who concluded that the cause of death was brain odema, skull fracture and head trauma.
It is alleged that on April 16, 2025, detectives from CID Bindura received Information linking the accused person to the commission of the offence. They made some follow ups leading to the arrest of the accused person in the Cottco area.
