Man kills teenager for jilting his friend

guilty to charges of murdering the girl when he appeared before Chiredzi Resident Magistrate Honest Musiiwa on Thursday.

The girl married Tenechi’s unnamed friend before divorcing him citing her young age. Tenechi was remanded in custody to Wednedsay.

Presenting the Sate case Mr Simbarashe Muchatibaya said on October 7 last year in the same village Tenechi, who was in the company of three unidentified accomplices who are still at large, allegedly assaulted his friend’s wife.

The court heard that the girl, who was married to Tenechi’s friend, left for her parents’ home in the same area after which the accused and his accomplices followed her. The court heard that Tenechi was sent as mediator to go to the unnamed juvenile’s home and beg for her to return home.
She reportedly refused, arguing that she realised she was too young to marry.

Tenechi and his friends found the girl alone at home doing some household chores, the court was told. It is the State’s case that Tenechi allegedly asked the juvenile why she had decided to ditch his friend.

The girl said she was too young to be married and she had just been deceived into entering into the marriage without realising some challenges associated with it, the court was told.

This did not go down well with Tenechi, who reportedly punched and kicked the girl all over the body.
The court heard that the juvenile was admitted at Chiredzi Hospital and discharged and returned home.
While at home her health deteriorated, resulting in her death.
