Man kills wife over infidelity

Court Correspondent

A man from Epworth has appeared in court for allegedly killing his wife by hitting her with an iron bar after suspecting her of infidelity.

Paul Mutezo (35) appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Munashe Chibanda charged with murder.

He was denied bail and remanded in custody to July 26.

Prosecuting, Mr Zororai Nkomo alleged that on Sunday at around 9pm in Overspill, Mutezo had a misunderstanding with his wife Tsitsi Munemo over alleged infidelity.

They eventually resolved the issue before they retired to bed.

Unsatisfied with Ms Munemo’s explanation when he woke up around 1am, Mutezo took his wife’s phone and tried to read her messages, but it was locked and had a password, making him angry.

He took an iron bar and struck his wife more than once on the head while she was sleeping.

Ms Munemo sustained deep head injuries that led to her death.
