VILLAGERS in Zaka were left shell-shocked after a 33-year-old man allegedly beat his wife to death with a twitch stick for relocating while he was away.
Crispin Tivayo of Rusaniko Village under Chief Nhema was arrested after allegedly murduring his wife Mashindu Chishikau (19)  and burying her body at a nearby river bank.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident.
It is alleged that on July 7, Tiyavo returned home from South Africa and learnt from his mother that Chishikau was now staying with a female friend, Alestina Chekenyere (46).

The accused went to Chekenyere’s house looking for his wife and was told that she had visited another friend in the same village.
It is alleged that the accused followed his wife where she had visited and assaulted her. However, other villagers who were at the scene managed to restrain him.

While the accused and his wife were on their way home, he allegedly continued assaulting Chishikau leading to her death and he subsequently buried her body at Mutozi river bank.

The body of the deceased was only discovered on July 17 by a passerby who then made a report to the police.
Inspector Zhanero said Tivayo was in police custody assisting them with investigations while the body of his wife was still at the mortuary pending a post-mortem.
