A COWDRAY PARK man has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting and robbing his neighbour of $2 000 near his home at night. Passmore Moyo (23) appeared before Bulawayo Western Commonage magistrate Stephen Ndhlovu yesterday facing assault and robbery charges.
Moyo pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Ndhlovu remanded him in custody to August 26.
The man allegedly assaulted Mr Tapiwa Chigariro (33) and robbed him of $2 000 while he was in the company of two others who are on the run.
Moyo however told the magistrate that he had a misunderstanding with Mr Chigariro.
“I do not admit to the charge. I had a misunderstanding with the complainant and we fought. I never took his cash and cell phone,” said Moyo.
Prosecuting, Kenneth Shava said last Thursday at around 10PM, Moyo and his accomplices met Mr Chigariro in Cowdray Park near his home and started assaulting him.
“One of them hit him on the face with an axe and the complainant fell down. They searched him and stole cash amounting to $2 000, a cell phone and a wallet with his particulars,” said Shava.
The three all ran away, but the complainant managed to identify Moyo as his neighbour.
The court heard that Mr Chigariro reported the matter to the police and moyo was arrested.
Mr Chigariro sustained a deep cut on the face and his money as well as phone and wallet were not recovered.
