A 25-year-old Eastview man lost cash and a television set to thieves while watching soccer with others at the shopping centre.
Taurai Majonga regretted joining his friends to watch live football at the shopping centre when he returned home to find the house broken into.
He lost US$60, a Samsung smartphone, 54-inch TV, 200 watts inverter and controller, 12 volts lithium battery, radio and two speakers, 15 blankets, 15 comforters, 6 sets of pots, 3D carpets by 10, fleece by 10, ten pairs shoes, 12 pairs tracksuits, four leather jackets, six jackets and various groceries all valued at US$3705.
Taurai’s mother Margret Nyarumbe, 48, left him home when she visited her rural home.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating an unlawfully entry and theft in Eastview,” said Insp Chakanza.
“The complainant’s son left home at around 8pm, locked the house and went to shops to watch soccer whilst his mother was at her rural home.
“He returned home at around 1 am and discovered that someone broke the screen door lock and padlock. He gained entry into the house and stole cash and household property worth US$3 705,” said Insp Chakanza.
