Man loses two fingers in fire-cracker blast

Thirty-year old Isaiah Tadzembwa of Dulibadzimu suburb bought a set of crackers at the bus terminus for his children.
When he got home at around 10 pm he decided to start the fireworks and lit one of the crackers but instead of putting it down so it could shoot into the air to explode safely, Tadzembwa inexplicably held on to it.
The cracker exploded in his palms blowing off two of his fingers and severely injuring two others.
The traumatised Tadzembwa rushed to the nearest shops where he took a taxi to the hospital.
“I spent the whole night bleeding as the doctor on call was said to be out and could not attend to me,” said Tadzembwa as he showed his heavily bandaged hand.
“My friends then took me to a private hospital in the morning where I was treated. Two of my right hand fingers were amputated while two others were badly injured. I am fortunate that the whole arm was not amputated.
“I could have lost my right hand because the explosion was very powerful. At the moment I am feeling better after the doctors attended to my wound” Tadzembwa said. Tadzembwa urged people, especially children, to be extra cautious when playing with firecrackers which he says are dangerous if not handled properly.
A firecracker (also known as a cracker, noisemaker, banger or bunger) is a small explosive device primarily designed to produce a loud bang; any visual effect is incidental to this goal.
Firecrackers have fuses and are wrapped in heavy paper casing that contains the explosive compound.
While firecrackers are meant mostly for children, they are not to be used without adult supervision.
