A 42-YEAR-OLD man from Mzinyathini in Esigodini was robbed of US$590 at knife point by four armed thugs in Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb while on his way to Emkambo marketplace.
Khulani Malinga was ambushed from behind by four knife-wielding suspects while walking along a dusty street in Makokoba. The robbers were also armed with a metal bar.
“One of them pressed a knife against his neck and threatened to stab him if he made a sound. Out of fear, Malinga complied and remained silent as they searched him and took the US$590 he had,” said a police source close to the investigations.
Malinga told cops he was heading to Emkambo to buy fence and poles for his rural home.
The matter was reported at Mzilikazi Police Station.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the daylight robbery and urged residents to assist in identifying the suspects.
“The four are still on the run and we believe they are known in the community. Anyone with information can report at any nearest police station,” she said.
She also encouraged residents to work closely with law enforcement to curb violent crime.
“You can give information anonymously using our tip-off boxes. Community co-operation is key in fighting crime,” she added.
