A HUNGRY man is an angry man — and when the “dessert” was denied, things got dirty in the bedroom.
Dylan Francis from Queenspark West, Bulawayo, reportedly turned violent after his wife Maria Kewalram refused to serve him his “forbidden fruit” in bed.
It is alleged that last Friday evening, Francis returned home from running errands, had his supper, and crawled into bed next to his wife. Moments later, he allegedly reached out for some late-night loving but Maria swatted him away.
Undeterred, Francis reportedly begged for some bedroom action, but Maria still turned him down.
Enraged by the rejection, he allegedly slapped her across the face. Maria tried to escape the blows by leaping out of bed, but Francis allegedly grabbed a bucket and bashed her on the head, inflicting injuries that landed her at Mpilo Central Hospital. She was treated and discharged the same day.
Maria later reported the assault to the police, leading to Francis’s arrest.
He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba facing a charge of physical abuse.
Francis pleaded not guilty, claiming infidelity pushed him over the edge.
“I suspected she was cheating on me. We argued about it and things got out of hand,” he told the court.
But Maria stood her ground.
“Your Worship, I’ve never cheated. He is lying. He beat me simply because I refused to have sex with him. I told him I wasn’t feeling well, but he didn’t care and wanted to force himself on me,” she said.
Francis was remanded out of custody to 4 August after paying US$100 bail. He was ordered to reside at his given address, avoid interfering with State witnesses, and report to Queenspark Police Station every fortnight on Fridays.
