AN altercation over playing cards ended tragically last Saturday after a 56-year-old-man was fatally assaulted by a colleague in Dora in the peri-urban of Mutare.

Winai Mundembe (56) died after sustaining serious head injuries when he was hit with a brick and pushed to the wall by Godknows Chingwende (24) after an altercation ensued over playing cards.
Police confirmed the incident, saying Chingwende was arrested a day after committing the heinous crime.

“Mundembe and his friends were playing cards at Gura Business Centre in Dora when Chingwende approached them and asked to join them. Mundembe verbally insulted Chingwende. They later exchanged blows. Chingwende pushed Mundembe to the verandah wall and he fell down.

“He became unconscious. He regained consciousness hours later and his brother, Jethro took him home.

“The following day Jethro went to check on his brother, but no-one responded when he knocked on the door. He force-opened the door and saw Mundembe dead,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.
