“YOUR Worship, I can only offer $10 for the maintenance of my two children,” claimed a Mutare man. Costa Marwa was dragged to court by his ex-wife, Sandra Munyoro, who was claiming $110 for the upkeep of their two minor children.
Marwa said: “I love my kids, but the problem is money to feed them. I am not employed and I earn a living through doing piece jobs, but they are not consistent. I can only offer $10 because Munyoro destroyed my every source of income.”
Munyoro told the court that Marwa was a security guard at Mukandi where he earns $100 a month. She also claimed that he runs a flea market where he also earns $300 monthly.
She said: “He can afford the money I am praying for because he runs a flea market. Though I don’t have proof of the money he earns at the flea market, I know that he earns such an amount because I used to sell at the same flea market.”
Marwa disputed everything and told the court that he had nothing since his ex-wife took all the property when they divorced.
He said: “I never divorced her, but she packed everything when I was on night duty. I am a contract worker who works as a guard from April to August. She left me in April. Since I loved her I followed her three times at her parents’ home and she told me that she does not know the reason why her mother called her. She refused to return to our matrimonial home. She told me that she was planning going back to school so I should pay maintenance.”
Presiding magistrate, Mrs Anniah Ndiraya ordered Marwa to pay $40 as maintenance effective from January 31, 2016.
