A HARARE man offered $15 000 for the upkeep of his two children after being dragged to court by his ex-wife.
Shepherd Kanembirira’s ex-wife, Jane Anthia, demanded US$260 for the upkeep of their children.
“He is a tiler, and used to earn US$600 before our separation. I have been paying school fees alone and I don’t have a permanent job since I am a maid.
“I want US$50 for food, US$60 for school fees, US$50 for rentals, US$30 for medicals, US$20 for uniforms and US$50 for clothes,” said Jane.
Shepherd said he could not afford to pay that amount.
“I am not working, and $15 000 is what I can pay at the moment.
“I also have a family to support and I wonder why she is claiming US$260 yet the children are in the rural areas.”
Presiding magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Shepherd to pay $40 000 in addition to buying uniforms twice a year.
