A HARARE man offered US$20 maintenance for his two-year-old child pleading unemployment.
Wakanaka Mavunga was taken to court by his ex-lover, Charity Nehanda, who demanded US$200 for the toddler’s upkeep.
“He works at TelOne and also has a side hustle, buying and selling an assortment of stuff, meaning he can afford the money I am asking for.
“He has one other child I know of, but I have been taking care of our child alone since birth.
“He has never contributed anything,” she said.
Wakanaka shot back, saying he would do anything for his child, but being unemployed was his major setback, and offered US$20.
“I was a contract worker at TelOne, but the contract has since ended, and I have no other revenue flow.
“I stay with my grandmother, who is a pensioner, so financially things are not good for me, but if I get a job, I will definitely spoil my child,” he said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Wakanaka to pay US$60 or the equivalent in local currency.
