A 34-year-old man who assaulted his wife with an electric cable after she confronted him over infidelity claims was on Thursday sentenced to perform 210 hours of community service.

Carlos Janyure appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Tsitsi Chitatu, where he was convicted of domestic violence.

He was initially sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment.

However, three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while the remaining six months were suspended on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service.

The complainant is Sibonginkosi Ncube (22), who is Janyure’s wife.

Prosecutor Tatenda Mpapa told the court that on May 1, 2026, at around 10 pm, the couple was at their residence in Budiriro 1 when a misunderstanding arose after Janyure accused Ncube of having an affair with a neighbour.

The court heard that Janyure became violent and assaulted his wife using fists, open hands and an electric cable.

He allegedly struck her several times on the back and all over the body with the cable, slapped her repeatedly on the right cheek and head-butted her on the forehead three times.

Ncube sustained injuries from the assault.
