A MAN from Harare, Justin Tapera, has been ordered to pay US$1 090 that he owes Ediga Chitsiya as balance on the purchase price of a car he bought from the latter.
Chitsiya told Harare Civil Court Magistrate Ms Johanna Mukweshe that he sold his vehicle to Tapera for US$7 000 and he paid US$5 910, leaving a balance of US$1 090.
“He is refusing to pay the balance. It has been a year now, he says that I gave him a car that is not in good condition, hence he will only give me US$300,” he said.
“If the car is not working properly, he is the one who broke it because when I gave it to him, it was working properly.,
“He even signed documents stating the car is in good working condition after taking it for a test drive. l just want him to give me my money, l have proof that he owes me US$ 1 090.”
Tapera said that Chitsiya had lied to him about the condition of the car.
“When I told him about how the car was costing me money in repairs, Chitsiya told me to give him US$300 instead of the initial balance I owed him,” he said.
Tapera told the court that he is surprised that Chitsiya is now claiming US$1 090 from him.
After Magistrate Mukweshe heard both sides and examined the proof Chitsiya had provided, he ordered Tapera to pay the balance of US$1 090 before September 30.
The magistrate said he would be jailed if he fails to pay the money.
