A 55-YEAR-OLD man from Mutasa Village was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after he raped his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
Two years of his sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour meaning he will serve 18 years in prison.
According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), he was arraigned before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court.
“Sometime in April 2023 the complainant’s mother left the complainant and her sibling in the custody of the accused person,” read the statement.
One evening as they were sleeping in the same room the accused person proceeded to the complainant, covered her mouth using hand and took her outside, removed her clothes before raping her.
“After committing the offence he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone,” the NPAZ said.
The complainant confided in her mother about the offence, when the accused person was confronted, he threatened to kill the complainant and her mother if they disclosed the matter to anyone.
“The matter came to light when an anonymous report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused person,” the NPAZ said.
