A BULILIMA man allegedly dragged his ex-girlfriend to her family’s cemetery and raped her as punishment for dumping him. Frank Sibanda, 27, allegedly raped the woman again on the following day after he found her alone at her parents’ homestead. He was caught in the act red-handed by the woman’s brother,a court heard yesterday.
Sibanda, of Masendu area in Bulilima, appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Livard Philemon, facing rape charges.
He was not asked to plead as he was remanded in custody to February 2 for trial.
The court heard that Sibanda proceeded to his ex-girlfriend’s homestead on December 29 at around 8PM demanding to know why she had dumped him. He found the victim alone in her bedroom hut and dragged her to their family cemetery which is about 100 metres from the homestead and raped her twice.
Prosecuting, Clemence Shawarira said after committing the crime, Sibanda fled from the homestead.
His ex-girlfriend told her mother about the sex attack on December 30.
“Sibanda returned to the complainant’s homestead on the following day at around 11PM and found her alone. He forced his way into her bedroom and raped her again,” said Shawarira.
He said Sibanda was caught by the alleged victim’s brother while he was still in the act.
Neighbours were called and guarded Sibanda overnight until the following morning when they handed him over to the police.
