A 33-year-old Mazowe man has been jailed for 20 years for raping a six-year-old girl before giving her US$1.
The man appeared before Bindura Magistrates’ Court facing rape charges. According to the State, on October 4, 2024, the man approached the victim who was playing with her friends and asked her to follow him, but she refused.
He then forcibly took her to a secluded place where he raped her. After committing the offence, the man gave the victim a dollar so that she would not reveal the offence.
The matter came to light when a passer-by heard the victim crying in the bush and took her to her mother, who made a report to the police leading to the man’s arrest.
