Man rapes, impregnates daughter

Midlands Correspondent
A 44-year-old man from Rubi Resettlement area in Lower Gweru has been arrested after he allegedly raped and impregnated his 13-year old daughter.
The crime only came to light after the girl, who has just received her Grade Seven results, complained to her mother that she was having some stomach pains.

She was taken to a local clinic where it was confirmed that she was five months pregnant.
Police spokesperson for Midlands, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
He said he was still to get a full report on the incident from the relevant police station.

A police officer close to the investigations yesterday said:
“The suspect who is from Rubi’s Lot 3 was left with his daughter at their homestead by the wife as she went to attend a funeral at their relatives in Shurugwi sometime in June this year. During the night, the father who was sharing the same bedroom hut with the daughter woke up and alighted from the bed. He slipped into his daughter’s blankets who was sleeping on the floor,”
The police said the suspect, who indicated to the daughter that the weather was cold and they should combine blankets, went on to rape the daughter twice.

“He told the daughter not to reveal the matter to the mother and she obliged. The girl recently complained of some stomach pains and was taken to a clinic by her mother,” said the police.

The police said some tests at the clinic revealed that the girl was five months pregnant.
“Upon interrogation, the girl told the mother that she was raped by her father resulting in the mother reporting the matter to the police. The suspect is currently in custody at Gweru Rural Police Station,” said the police.
