A 40-year-old Chitungwiza man allegedly proposed love to his 15-year-old maid promising to increase her wages and raped her after she turned down his advances, the court has heard.

The man has since appeared in court to answer to rape charges before Chitungwiza regional magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa.

He was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded in custody to February 12.

The prosecutor Ms Karen Kunaka told the court that on the morning of August 8 last year, the minor was sitting on the sofa alone at the man’s house.

It is alleged that the man approached her asking the girl to fall in love with him so that he could increase her wages.

He allegedly told the girl that he used the same tactic to all his former maids.

The minor reportedly asked him to stop what he was doing, but the man allegedly proceeded to lock the door and advanced towards her.

It is further alleged that the man forcibly tore the minor’s clothes while she screamed, but no one came to her rescue.

The court heard that the minor rushed to the door and tried to open it in an attempt to escape but he pulled her down on the floor.

He allegedly put on a condom and forced himself on the minor.

After the alleged abuse, the man allegedly told the minor to remain silent and she went back to her room.

The girl took the opportunity to escape and went to inform the man’s sister-in-law who refused to take her to the police.

The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
