Man rapes stepdaughter (6), court told

appeared in court.
He denied the charges laid against him when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Never Katiyo.

He was remanded to December 12 for continuation of trial.
The man denied the charges alleging that there was never a time he was left alone with the girl whenever his wife went to Zambia.
He even argued that it was the girl’s father who fabricated and pressed rape charges against him because of he was jealous of his union with the girl’s mother.

The girl’s mother, a cross-border trader, was said to frequently visit Zambia to order her wares and would live behind her new husband with the girl.
Prosecutor Mr Mugaviri Mugaviri told the court that on an unknown day in June this year, the girl’s mother went to Zambia as usual leaving her with her husband.

On the fateful night, the minor was sleeping on the floor and the stepfather was on the bed.
The man took advantage of the situation when he woke up in the night and lifted the girl to his bed and raped her once.

The girl did not report the matter to anyone and only mentioned it to her grandmother when she visited her in Marondera. The grandmother acted swiftly on the matter and called the girl’s father informing him about what had happened.

She then accompanied the minor back to Harare where a police reportwas filed leading to the stepfather’s arrest.
