A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Chivi, Masvingo Province was arrested for breaking into a woman’s home, assaulting her, and raping her twice.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said “Dumisani Mapfunde (24) from Chief Shindi area, Chivi appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court facing rape charges.
“On the 17th of July 2024, at about 1900 hours, the accused person proceeded to the 24 year old complainant’s homestead and forcibly opened the door to unlawfully gain entry into complainant’s bedroom. He struck the complainant with a wooden log and threatened to kill her before he raped her without protection. He threatened her for the second time before raping her once more. The accused person reported the matter to a member of the neighbourhood watch committee who effected an arrest before handing over the accused person to the Police.”
The accused was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to the charge, said the NPAZ.
