A CHITUNGWIZA man on Monday threatened to kill a 22 year-old woman, who was about to commit suicide, and raped her at knife point.
The woman, identified only as Kundi, walked from Unit P to Seke communal lands where she found a secluded place to down rat poison.
She was reported to have decided to take her life after suspecting she was HIV positive.
While Kundi was about to take poison, an unidentified man came to her holding a knife, covering his face with a balaclava and threatened to kill her if she would make any noise to alert people.
He went on to rape her without protection and disappeared from the scene.
A villager found Kundi at the scene.
She narrated what had transpired and that she had come to commit suicide.
She was led to her mother and a police report was made.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case saying the victim was taken to Chitungwiza Hospital for medical examinations.
“Police are investigating a rape case in Chitungwiza.
“The suspect raped the complainant at knife point and went away with her belongings that included bank cards, US$7, and her cellphone.”
