THE Zvishavane Regional Magistrates Court has sentenced a 50-year-old man from Chief Bankwe area in Mberengwa to 20 years imprisonment for sexually violating his neighbour, a 90-year-old grandmother.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused, who was not named, sexually violated the grandmother on June 11.

“On the 11th of June 2025 at around 9pm, the victim was sleeping in her bedroom when the offender knocked pretending to be the victim’s grandson,” said NPA in a press release.
The grandmother, NPA said, realised that it was not her grandson through a small opening in the door and refused to open.

“The offender forcefully entered the victim’s bedroom, pushed the victim to the ground and had sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent. The victim tried to shout for help to no avail,” said NPA.

The following morning, she reported her ordeal to her neighbour, who accompanied her to file a report leading to the arrest of the accused.
