Man sets house on fire over 50 cents

A Harare man attempted to kill his wife and two children by locking them in a cabin and setting it on fire following a misunderstanding over 50 cents.

Never Balami (32) of Budiriro 4 was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe on Tuesday charged with attempted murder.

Mr Mahwe remanded Balami to May 19 and advised him to seek bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Ms Idah Maromo alleged that the incident happened on Saturday last week when Balami asked

for 50 cents from his wife, but the request was turned down.

This angered Balami who became violent and got out of the couple’s cabin and locked in his wife and children.

He sprinkled the cabin with paraffin and set it on fire, but his wife and children were rescued by neighbours.
