A woman yesterday told the Harare Civil Court that her abusive husband was in the habit of smoking mbanje with their four-year-old son whenever he comes home drunk. Shamila Mandaza said Raymond Pfungwa was also teaching their son how to make a twist of mbanje. This emerged in a case in which Pfungwa was seeking a protection order against Mandaza whom he accused of having an extra-marital affair with their neighbour.
“I divorced this woman when I discovered that she was having an adulterous relationship with our neighbour,” he said.
Pfungwa told magistrate Ms Audrey Tarugarira that Mandaza broke into their house while he was away and looted their matrimonial property, leaving only a television set.
“I have since taken our two children to my parents’ house because when she looted the property she took the children’s clothes and blankets ( as well),” he said.
But Mandaza denied the allegations and accused Pfungwa of smoking mbanje with their minor child.
She said her phone once went missing in the house and when Pfungwa claimed to have found it he showed her some love messages in the inbox that she was not aware of.
“He started forcing me to accept that the messages where sent by my boyfriend and from that day he has been physically and verbally abusing me until I ran away from home,” she said.
Mandaza claimed that Pfungwa once locked her inside their bedroom and attempted to stab her with a knife.
Ms Tarugarira deferred the matter to tomorrow for ruling.
