A 54-year-old Harare man has appeared in court facing allegations of attempting to murder his former employee, who allegedly stole and sold his mining equipment before fleeing without notice.

Nkosiyabo Moyo appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa and was charged with attempted murder. Moyo, who was represented by lawyer Mr Claude Bare, was granted US$100 bail.

Prosecutor Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti told the court that in October 2025, the complainant had been employed by Moyo as an artisanal miner at Stories Mine in Mazowe.

Moyo entrusted the complainant with managing the operations in his absence. However, the complainant allegedly sold all of the mining equipment and fled without informing the employer.

On February 10, 2026, at approximately 7pm, Moyo reportedly tracked the complainant to the Helensvale squatter camp in Borrowdale.

Armed with a pistol, Moyo approached the complainant, who was asleep in his shack.

Sensing the danger, the complainant bolted out of the shack, but Moyo fired multiple shots in his direction.

One of the bullets struck the complainant in the left thigh.
