A MAN from Inyathi was hauled before the courts for allegedly sodomising his employer’s Grade Three son. The 20-year-old was employed as a gardener at the victim’s house in Goodwood Village sometime in 2013. The victim is 11 years old. He appeared before magistrate Mr Stephen Ndlovu and was charged for aggravated indecent assault.

Prosecuting, Mr Lungisani Dube said during the period of 2013, the accused was working for the victim’s grandparents and he used to share a bedroom hut with the victim.

“Since he shared a bedroom hut with the victim he then had anal sexual intercourse with him for several times on different occasions. He would tell the victim not to disclose the issue to anyone as doing so would invite serious punishment. In fear of being punished the victim kept quiet for the whole year and was sexually abused by the garden boy,” he said.

It is alleged that since the case was not reported in the year 2013, the accused then resorted to sodomise the victim again in 2014. Mr Dube said on 24 February 2014 the victim was sleeping in the bedroom hut with his cousin when the accused sneaked in during the night.

“During the night he sneaked in the boy’s bedroom hut. As usual he approached the victim and ordered him to remove his pants and lie facing down; he then sodomised him. After that he ordered the boy not to tell anyone and he promised to reward him with a watermelon. It is during this time that the victim’s cousin woke up and heard him promising to give the victim a watermelon,” he said.

It is alleged that the victim’s cousin asked why he was being too generous to the boy by promising to give him a watermelon but the accused did not respond.

Mr Dube said on 25 February 2014 at around 7am the boy’s cousin told their grandmother what had transpired the previous night.

It is alleged that the boy’s grandmother asked her grandson if he was being sexually abused and he confirmed the matter. The grandmother then called one of the members of the neighborhood watch committee who accompanied her to report the case to the ZRP Siganda post.

The victim was taken to Inyathi District Hospital and medical reports proved that he victim was sexually abused.

The accused was remanded in custody to 12 November for continuation of trial.
