Man steals friend’s car after drinking spree

A HARARE man allegedly stole his friend’s car after a drinking spree.

George Chatambudza appeared in court yesterday charged with theft of the vehicle which belongs to his friend, Jonathan Shaw.

The State submitted that the two went on a drinking spree in Greencroft until around 2am.

Shaw got too drunk and requested Chatambudza to drive him home and he agreed.

Shaw went to bed and woke up the next morning around 11am and discovered that his car was not at its usual parking spot.

Chatambudza was also not in the house, and he filed a police report.

Shaw had left his cellphone and US$1 500 in the car.

On Tuesday, Chatambudza was involved in an accident while driving Shaw’s car.

When the police checked at CVR, they discovered that the car had been reported stolen leading to his arrest.
