A 25-year-old man was caught red-handed stealing two pairs of shoes and two buckets from a friend. He told the courts he wanted to use the shoes and buckets.Tatenda Jache (33), of no fixed abode, admitted to theft of Evans Gasva’s two pairs of shoes and two plastic buckets when he appeared before Mbare Magistrate Ms Kudzai Zihove.
However, magistrate Hove remanded the accused in custody to a later date and asked the State to verify the his place of residence as she was not convinced that he is of no fixed abode.
According to the State led by Ms Revai Mudozori, Jache went to Gasva’s place of residence in Glen Norah B at around 0240am and found two pair of shoes and two plastic buckets in the yard.
He is said to have taken the items and was caught by Gasva as he was leaving.
Gasva, who was coming from a local bar, then alerted some neighbours before taking Jache to the police where he was arrested.
The goods, valued at an estimated $32, were recovered. In his defence Jache said, “I wanted to wear the shoes and use the buckets to fetch water,”
He asked for the court’s leniency, adding that his pregnant wife is in the rural areas. The magistrate asked him to tell reveal his address or else he would be given a permanent one in custody.
