Man steals grandpaa��s money to please girlfriend

WHILE his mother and aunt were busy taking care of his grandfather, a grandson to the elderly man whose story was in our last weeka��s edition reportedly stole money from his grandfathera��s bank account 13 times.

Trust Mbanje (24) stole money amounting to $240 from Jonathan Mbanje (84).

He reportedly used the money to buy his girlfriend groceries as a way of pleasing her.

The matter came to light when the old man wanted to withdraw money from the bank only to discover there was nothing.

He then reported the matter to police leading to his grandsona��s arrest.

Trust appeared before magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing theft charges and he pleaded guilty citing that he needed money to buy his girlfriend groceries.

Prosecuting, Tendai Binha said during the period stretching from 24 February to 17 March, Trust stole money from Mbanje using his ATM card at Choppies Lobengula.

On different occasions onA� different dates Trust, withdrew $10;A� $8;A� $10; $19,80; $29,39;A� $20,07; $9,97;A� $14,43; $27,57;A� $32,19;A� $11,75;A� $8,79 and $19,99 which totals up to about $240.

The prosecutor said Mbanje discovered the offence on 23 March when he wanted to withdraw his money only to discover there was nothing resulting in Trusta��s arrest.

Trust pleaded guilty to the 13 counts.

a�?I stole from my grandfather to buy my girlfriend, Brenda, some groceries since I am not employed.

a�?I had access to my grandfathera��s bank account because when he opened the bank account we were together and so I knew the pin code.a�?

Mbanje begged the magistrate to jail his grandson so he could learn to act responsibly and he told Trust not to come back to their home when he comes out of prison.

Magistrate Abednico Ndebele sentenced him to 52 days imprisonment. .
