A SEXUALLY-STARVED woman from Kwekwe was granted a protection order against her abusive husband.
Grace Hutete (46), from Redcliff, dragged her husband Leonard Mabungu to court seeking a protection order.
Mabungu, a former Zisco employee, appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa.
Hutete told the court that her husband had sexually starved her for the past six months and was in the habit of mistreating her.
a?Your Worship, I hardly see this man at home. He deprives me of my conjugal rights as his wife and I have been sexually starved for nearly six months now. He left me to raise our two mentally challenged children alone,a? she said in tears.
The court also heard that Mabungu was in the habit of disposing household property without his wifeas consent.
Every time he would go home he would physically and verbally abuse her and the children.
Hutete told the court that efforts to reconcile were in vain as they had engaged relatives and the police, but Mabungu still continued with abuse.
In her ruling magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa, granted the protection order and effected it for the next five years.
a?The courts are not there to encourage divorce and broken families but to encourage families to make peace, reconcile and raise their children together.
a?Therefore, this order is effected for the next five years and will restrain you from harassing each other,a? she said.
Mabungu later opposed the granting and stated that the five-year period would not allow the couple to settle their differences and reconcile.
Although the concern was raised before the magistrate, her ruling remained binding.
