A MAN, who died after being hit by a car, is still to be identified – a week after his death.

Police in Manicaland are now appealing to members of the public for assistance in him.

He died after being hit by a car along the Birchenough Bridge/Mt Selinda Road last week.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident and said the victim, believed to be around 32-years-old, died upon admission at Chipinge District Hospital.

“The accident occurred on October 28, 2025, at around 6pm near Mukushwa Lodge, along the Birchenough Bridge–Mt Selinda Road.

“A silver Honda Fit, registration number AEV 1593, driven by a 33-year-old man, Garikai Gwedzi, of House Number 5879, Gaza ‘A’ location, Chipinge, was travelling north towards Tanganda Halt, with two passengers on board, when it struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road from right to left,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.

He said the impact left the victim with severe head injuries.

The man was rushed to Chipinge District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission.

“The body of the deceased is being held at Chipinge District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem and we are appealing to anyone who might have a missing male relative or friend fitting that description to visit the hospital or contact the nearest police station to assist in identifying him,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.

He said police officers from ZRP Chipinge Traffic attended the scene soon after the accident was reported.

“While investigations continue, we urge both motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially during the evening hours when visibility is reduced. “Pedestrians should ensure that they cross the road at designated points and only when it is safe to do so, while drivers should always be alert and drive within the recommended speed limits,” he said.
