Man to serve two years for robbery

Hardlife Nheya (23), of no fixed abode, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to two counts of robbery by Beitbridge magistrate Ms Gwineth Drawo.

Nheya was sentenced to three years in jail, of which one-year was suspended for five years on condition that he does not within that period commit a similar offence.

Nheya was further sentenced to an additional 60 days in prison for possessing four twists of mbanje following his arrest. The sentences will run concurrently.

The prosecutor, Mr Marvelous Chikomo, said on 26 April at about 10am, the complainant was on his way to a bushy area to seek the services of a prophet when he was confronted by Nheya and his two accomplices who are still at large.

The court heard that Nheya pulled out a knife and

ordered the complainant to remove his pair of trousers before robbing him of his cellphone and R50.

Soon after committing the offence, Nheya and his accomplices fled from the scene leaving the complainant naked.

They later confronted a security guard at a bushy area near Mashakada Business Centre. Nheya and his accomplices pulled out knives before they robbed the complainant who was coming from work amid threats to stab him if he resisted. They took his cellphone worth $200 and fled. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Nheya after he was positively identified by one of the complainants wearing the stolen pair of trousers.

The stolen cellphones were also recovered.
