Orlando Pirates fined for fan misbehaviour

Bucs were called to appear in front of the PSL DC after their supporters invaded the pitch during the Telkom Knockout Final against Bidvest Wits at Moses Mabhida Stadium in December.

R100 000 of the fine was suspended for 12 months on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension. That, however, seems unlikely.

Pirates will also have to pay a suspended fine of R100 000 from a previous case, as well as costs.

They were fined R150 000 (R100 000 suspended) for spectator misbehaviour in May 2011, at which point they had to pay the suspended amount from their previous fine for the same offence, in February 2011.

“The club will issue a written apology within seven days and that apology will be posted on their and PSL’s website. They were also ordered to address spectators about their conduct prior to kick-off and during half-time at all the remaining home fixtures,” the PSL’s statement reads.—Kickoff.
