Man torches in-laws’ homestead

Property worth more than US$5 000 was destroyed.
Calisto Chuma – who faces charges of malicious damage to property – was assisting police with investigations and is expected to appear in court soon.
ZRP officer commanding Beitbridge District Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo confirmed the incident.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect who stays in Kadoma had a domestic dispute with his wife and she fled their matrimonial home to stay with her parents. Chuma, however, followed her on Christmas Day but was told that she had crossed the border to South Africa.” He said this led to a heated argument between Chuma and his in-laws.
“The in-laws later convened a meeting to resolve the issue but they failed to find a solution with Chuma.”
He allegedly returned to his in-laws’ homestead at 2am and poured paraffin on three huts.
“He set the huts alight but no-one was injured in the blaze. The matter was then reported to police leading to Chuma’s arrest.”
