A MAN from Fort Rixon, Matabeleland South Province, has been arrested for allegedly turning his employer’s garden into a dagga plantation.

Nqabutho Maphosa appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa facing a charge of cultivating dagga.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison and six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining nine months were further suspended, on condition that he performs 315 hours of community service at ZRP base in Fort Rixon.

The court heard that on 20 February, the police received a tip off that Nqabutho was cultivating dagga in his employer’s garden.

A team of five police officers carried out a raid at his employer’s house and upon arrival they questioned him.

He first denied the allegations and after a thorough interrogation, he admitted that he was growing dagga.

The drug peddler then led the police officers to the garden and showed them the dagga plants leading to his arrest.
