Moyes declared: “Isn’t it great that the club says, ‘There’s no budget here, you go get who you want to get, just go and do it’.
“We are looking at the best players. I do think it’s important that we show people we are carrying on the traditions and trying to take the club forward.”

Spurs wing wizard Bale (23) and Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo (28) would cost way over double that, though.

Asked about Bale and Ronaldo, Moyes said: “I will not name anybody but certainly we are always looking at the best players.
“I think we are trying to strengthen in a couple of areas. We are short in midfield. We are also a club which tends to invest in the youth side, so you can expect us to go for players in that age group.

“We are working hard to make sure the first signing is the right one.
“I have been left a really good team and I want to add to it sensibly.”

United remain keen on Leighton Baines, one of Moyes’ stars at former club Everton.
But the Red Devils will not increase their £12m offer, meaning the England left-back will have to put in a transfer request if he wants a move.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have no plans to sit down with Wayne Rooney over a new contract and want to assess the striker’s form and fitness before discussing his future.
Chief executive Ed Woodward confirmed on the opening leg of their club’s pre-season tour in Thailand that priority is being given to transfers rather than negotiating with Rooney.

He still has two years left on his reported £250 000-a-week deal.
Rooney, currently back in England with a hamstring injury that will keep him out for three weeks, has been linked with Chelsea and Paris St-Germain but has been told by United he will not be sold.

Woodward said: “There are no contract renewals that are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary.
“Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not.”

Rooney was absent as Moyes’ first match in charge of United brought a 1-0 defeat to Singha All-Stars in Bangkok on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho, also in Thailand on his return to Chelsea, was asked about the link with a move for Rooney to Stamford Bridge.

“From an ethical point of view I can not speak about other team’s players. But I won’t speak with hypocrisy. It’s not in my nature. I always speak what I think,” he said.
“He is a player I like very much but I can’t say much more. He is fast and direct and I like him. But he is a Manchester United player.”

Despite the striker flying home from United’s tour, Moyes re-iterated that Rooney was not for sale despite being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
“Unless I was speaking double Dutch last week, we said Wayne Rooney is not for sale,” said Moyes.

“People are entitled to talk about good players. I’m getting asked plenty of questions about Wayne.
“Jose has been asked about players as well. It’s hard to keep repeating myself but I will – Wayne is a Manchester United player and it will remain that way.”

And Wilfried Zaha has ruled out returning to Crystal Palace on-loan next season after getting his first taste of life at Manchester United.
Zaha, who joined United from Palace in January, completed the season on-loan at Selhurt Park and helped the club win promotion to the Premier League.

But despite Palace making a bid to lease him again next term, Zaha insists he wants to stay at United and fight for his place next season.
“I’ve grafted to get here so Manchester United is where I want to stay,” said Zaha.

“I have moved away from most of my family and friends now, but it’s progress — everyone understands that. “I wanted to make the move here because it is what is best for my career”. — The Sun-Mailonline.
