Gunners give Gonzalo Higuain ultimatum

The Gunners agreed a club record deal to sign Higuain from Real Madrid almost a month ago but the striker has dragged his feet over completing the switch. And now manager Arsene Wenger desperately wants to know if the 25-year-old still intends to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Higuain, who has verbally agreed a £150 000-a-week contract with Arsenal, spoke to new Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti last week and was impressed with his plans for the club.
Arsenal are now concerned that Higuain may well end up staying put with the Spanish giants, despite weeks of work going into trying to lure him to the English Premier League.

Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez are alternatives being looked at by the Frenchman, but both are likely to prove too unrealistic to pull off.
Arsenal remain in the driving seat to bag Higuain, who is their top target, and expect a firm answer within days after contacting his agent on Friday.

The Argentine international has received interest from Juventus, Napoli and two sides in the Middle East, but it’s thought he plans to either join Arsenal, or stay at Madrid.
If the transfer goes through, Higuain is likely to fetch upwards of £25 million.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has promised to bring “big signings” to Arsenal this summer after confirming he will stay at the Emirates Stadium for years to come. Wenger, whose current contract is due to expire in 12 months’ time, has been strongly linked with a move away from the Gunners, with Ligue 1 outfit PSG keen.

But the Frenchman insists that he will be staying on as Arsenal manager for many years to come, and plans to splash the cash on several new signings this summer. “I am committed to staying longer at this club,” said Wenger.

“We have already had a chat about the future and it went very well, there is no problem. I want to do well for the club and this is an important season for me. I’m linked with PSG because I’m French and I know the owners, but my heart is with Arsenal. “This year is very important; we have better financial resources than the years before — resources we have created ourselves.

“We are interested in big signings.”
Arsenal been linked with the likes of Rooney, Suarez and Marouane Fellaini, while Higuain is edging closer to a £27million move to north London.

And Wenger admits that all those names interest him, but fans must be patient in the race for signings.
“Yes we are interested,” he added.

“First of all, all those players are under contract and it is the club that decides their contract, they decide if they can go and after, if they go, if they can join us.” Arsenal have around £70million to spend on new players this summer. — AFP.
