Man up for attempted abortion

Prosper Dembedza Court Correspondent
A 31-year-old Harare man yesterday appeared in court for allegedly trying to illegally terminate his girlfriend’s pregnancy.
Tatenda Mugombeyi appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko charged with attempted unlawful termination of a pregnancy.

He was granted $100 bail.
As part of his bail conditions he was ordered to continue residing at his given address and not to interfere with witnesses.
The court heard that Mugombeyi impregnated Bertha Chindewere, who informed him about it.

The court heard that Mugombeyi asked Chindewere to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused. It is further alleged that on an unknown date but during the period between March 25 and 27, 2019 Mugombeyi inserted a pill into Chindewere’s private parts with the intention of terminating the pregnancy without her knowledge.

The court heard that Chindewere fell ill on March 27 and visited the hospital where a doctor who examined her discovered the pill.

A report was made to the police leading to Mugombeyi’s arrest.
